Adobe Max: an ever more efficient AI on Lightroom and Photoshop

The Adobe Max event, eagerly awaited by the creative followers of the Californian developer, was an opportunity for the brand to present its new features as well as its vision of creation. On the menu, features boosted by Adobe Sensei AI, and a guideline that targets more social networks and emerging uses.

Lightroom pours into editing

Lightroom, the software of choice for photographers, combines library manager and demosaicing software for processing RAW photos. In order to improve the productivity of professionals, Adobe adds several optimizations allowing, among other things, to avoid a time-consuming passage through Photoshop.

Thus, the software is adorned with new features and improvements. The masking tool kicks into high gear. More precise, it is now able to automatically mask people or body parts of the subject such as eyes, hair, lips, eyebrows, etc. in order to refine and facilitate processing.

AI more subtle than the user

The selection also benefits from AI, now allowing the user to choose a subject, object or background by drawing roughly on it, Lightroom taking care of refining the selection itself.

The correction tool now approximates what can already be found in Photoshop, removing the unwanted and replacing it with content support. The adjustment is thus more precise, allowing for example to remove the leash of a dog, an unwanted person or a trash can on a photo, without having to go through Photoshop.

Finally, Lightroom comes with adaptive presets, offering adjustments depending on the nature of the photo. Lightroom will automatically adjust the eyes, teeth or eyebrows in a portrait, for example.

Obviously, the new update brings support for the latest devices like the recent iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max or the Fujifilm X-H2.

Photoshop always more selective

For its part, Photoshop is more stingy with new features. Adobe is advancing improved selection tools to more accurately outline skies, backgrounds, foregrounds and especially hair. Content-based filling also takes advantage of advances in AI to provide ever more finesse in functionality.

Adobe boosts the collaborative side of Photoshop, allowing businesses to more efficiently share a file so that multiple people can work on it (but only one at a time).

Finally, a new neural filter arrives in beta for the restoration of old photos. Thanks to machine learning and Adobe Sensei AI, Photoshop is able to remove the characteristic scratches and blemishes of old photos.

Obviously, Adobe does not neglect videographers. Premiere Pro gets improved automatic color correction to save time when grading. For its part, the Remix tool automatically adjusts music to match the video sequence.
