Shortly after the announcement of the acquisition of Figma by Adobe, here we learn a little more about the objectives and the possible repercussions behind this strategy.

Will this takeover have any consequences on Figma’s pricing policy?

Figma: an unchanged “Freemium” model

On September 15, Adobe announced that it wanted to buy Figma for 20 billion dollars. Intended for companies so that they can conceive and design their most creative ideas, the collaborative platform seems to have definitely charmed the giant specializing in graphics software. However, since its announcement, this takeover has raised some fears and questions about Figma’s future business model.

That companies be reassured, Scott Belsky, director of Adobe products, confirmed in the columns of Bloomberg that Figma’s pricing policy would not change. If Adobe has already planned to integrate certain modifications to the platform, it does not plan to amputate its free version or increase its prices. Thus, the free version will always remain free, and collaborative projects will always allow file sharing without having to checkout. Phew!

Still according to statements by Belsky, reported by Engadget, this takeover, if it is concluded, will aim to allow the Adobe suite to be enriched with some of the key features of Figma (and vice versa). Regarding Adobe XD, the alternative to Figma launched in 2016, there is no guarantee that it will not be abandoned once the transaction is concluded. The latter could also be finalized in the course of 2023, provided, of course, that everything is done according to the rules of the art.
