Adrien Quatennens admits having “slapped” his wife and announces that he is withdrawing from LFI

Targeted by a handrail filed by his wife in a context of divorce, the LFI deputy from the North acknowledged certain episodes of violence. He steps back from his position as national coordinator of the movement.

Under pressure, Adrien Quatennens breaks the silence. Questioned by “a handrail” filed by his wife for episodes of violence, the LFI deputy from the North wanted to give his version of the facts this Sunday morning in a press release. “I don’t want the movement I represent to bear these pressures, nor let any infamous speculation about me continue”he explained, while denouncing “the act of political malice consisting in leaking the contents of a daybook to the press”.

“I therefore make the difficult and costly choice to speak out in full transparency on the situation in the hope that we can find the path to appeasement in our family and in public opinion”, he wrote. Adrien Quatennens first admitted that his wife’s handrail was “filed in the particular context of tensions” of their future divorce. If he claims not to know his “contents“, the Insoumis affirms that his wife has “made for the sole purpose of leaving a record of (their) altercations in the event of a deterioration in the climate”. “She does not intend that there can be any legal consequences or that this can be of interest to the media”he assures.

“Context of extreme tension”

Adrien Quatennens thus detailed the episodes of violence that Céline Quatennens could blame him for. Among them : “a slap”given “in a context of extreme tension and mutual aggressiveness”. “I gave it away when it didn’t look like me and it never happened again. I deeply regretted this gesture and I then apologized a lot, he promises.

The deputy from the North, often considered “the right arm” where the “number 2” of Jean-Luc Mélenchon says however to draw from it “political consequences”. He announces to put “withdrawn” of his function as “coordinator of La France Insoumise” – the highest internal position – “to protect the movement, its activists and all those who rely a lot on me”. “I could hunker down, minimize the facts and wait for the storm to pass. But because I am politically responsible, and I want to set an example to which I want to assign myself and which has always been my line of conduct.he says.

Finally, Adrien Quatennens asked that the “right to privacy” of the couple “be respected” to act “a divorce” that they wish “amicably”.

On Twitter, Jean-Luc Mélenchon first commented on the facts in his own way: “Police malice, media voyeurism, social networks were invited in the conflictual divorce of Adrien and Céline Quatennens. Adrien decides to take it all on himself. I salute his dignity and his courage. I tell him my confidence and my affection.. Faced with the wave of indignation caused by this first tweet, the ex-candidate of LFI wrote a second: “Céline and Adrien are both my friends. My affection for him does not mean that I am indifferent to Céline. She didn’t want to be quoted. But I say: a slap is unacceptable in any case. Adrian accepts it. It’s good”he specified.
