Deputy Adrien Quatennens, sentenced on Tuesday to a 4-month suspended prison sentence in particular for violence against his wife, is dismissed for the same period from his political group in the Assembly, announced the rebellious deputies in a press release. “Faithful to our commitment to the fight against violence against women, we had to collectively take a political decision”, declared the group, temporarily striking off Adrien Quatennens “until April 13, 2023”.
His return is “conditioned on the commitment to follow an accountability course on violence against women”.

Quatennens already withdrawn from his parliamentary activity
“It is a serious judicial decision, a substantial, serious sentence, (…) is he in a position to defend the common cause which is ours, including the cause of feminists?”, questioned the communist deputy Sébastien Twin. For Sophie Taillé-Polian, deputy representing environmentalists in the Nupes intergroup, “it’s a guilty plea and he still had a four-month suspended sentence, so we can imagine that the facts are proven and heavy”.

The LFI group explained that it was trying to reconcile “the court decision taken after investigation, the feminist principle of taking women’s voices seriously, a desire for gradation of sanctions” and the fact that “Adrien Quatennens is already withdrawn from his parliamentary activity for three months”.
Judged in appearance on prior admission of guilt (CRPC or “plead-guilty”), the deputy, in blue jeans and a black puffer jacket, was present during the approval by a judge of his sentence, which he had previously accepted on a proposal parquet. His wife, with whom he is engaged in conflicting divorce proceedings, was also present, accompanied by a lawyer.
