Parents of untested students face a fine

If you want to save yourself the corona test, you have to pay dearly. At the start of school after the summer holidays, Thuringia introduces a warning fee for parents if their child shows up at school without being tested. If you fail to do so repeatedly, you face higher penalties.

In the corona pandemic, Thuringian parents face a future fine of between 60 and 250 euros if corona test regulations are not complied with. This does not apply to parents of vaccinated or recovered children and adolescents, as the Left Education Minister, Helmut Holter, announced. It is planned that the offense will be classified as an administrative offense.

Holter said the fine should be staggered for parents who refused to have their children tested. Accordingly, higher penalties are to be imposed for repeated offenses. The details are still being worked on.

A test phase will run in the first 14 days of school, which Holter calls the safety buffer. During this time, there will be mandatory corona tests in schools twice a week. According to this, there should only be this mandatory test in the highest corona warning level 3 of the Free State. In addition to the seven-day incidence, the local hospitalization figures and the Thuringia-wide utilization of intensive care beds in hospitals are decisive for reaching a warning level.

“There is a school year in attendance ahead of us,” said the ministry. With this presence, the implementation of the nationwide catch-up program should start in autumn. Schools could take advantage of many additional funding opportunities in the next two years. The focus should be on the socio-emotional, motor and cognitive development of children and adolescents.
