With 4 French people Worlds of TFT (A33d, Double61, L3S Coco and Voltariux), the community was expecting a title. Unfortunately, he had perhaps spoken a little too quickly, since the adventure very quickly stopped for our tricolors. 3 took the door during the first day and none managed to slip into the top 8.
For the Mag Esportwe had the opportunity to talk for 20 minutes with AEGIS Un33d, the Frenchman who performed best during the event (top 16). Between disappointment and pride, he is still happy to have come this far. The player did not seek to find an excuse. The Chinese and Koreans were too strong. Above all, they were better prepared and the French TFT scene, although exciting and passionate, still needs to develop. His expertise is invaluable and allows us to better understand the state of the current scene and the balance of power that we see in competition. The Frenchman, far from being fatalistic, will get back to work since there are still big tournaments coming up!
The performance of the French: complicated Worlds
A33d would like to remind you that being at the Worlds was already a great performance! The qualification process was long and even if everyone is aiming for the top 1, participating in a competition of this level is a success in itself. On a personal level, he was almost surprised to be invited to the party, given that his status as a player-streamer forces him to play on several levels. We can only salute the humility of the Frenchman, who still remains a monster on the official ladder!
With the French, A33d is the only one to have made the first cut. Double61, Voltariux and L3S Coco all took the door on the first day of competition. For the viewers, it was a bit of a cold shower. We may have had a distorted view of the level of our French. In Europe, they are a bit alone in the world and ride on the competition. The concern is that outside of Europe, the other regions are much more competitive. China, for example, has many more players and also offers a lot of cash prizes. The Chinese championship, for example, offered a reward nearly 3 times greater than that of the Worlds. In this context, our French people had a hard time adapting. The metagame didn’t help and Asian players came with a very different pace of play, a lot more chill and focused on late game.
An esports scene that still needs to grow in Europe
The TFT scene generates a lot of passion, especially in France. But that passion must now come to fruition. In the end, behind AEGIS there are not a lot of big esports structures that are committed. We can cite Solary or the Karmine Corp.but for the moment Team Vitality Where LDLC OL are still absent. Un33d comes from Hearthstone and he is well aware that “RNG” games have a harder time attracting organizations and sponsors. However, the demand is there, as is the talent. The scene needs more players and more tournaments to progress.
It is in this context that MGG organizes the MGG Series, a competition over several weeks (league format) and with 5,000 euros in cash prizes. To progress, there is no secret and you have to play. Beyond the tournaments, Un33d also requested and obtained a Chinese account to play on this competitive server. The objective is simple: to be inspired by the best, to get closer and to beat them.
