Which series will follow House of the Dragon in a few years ? Perhaps it will be the one that will tell the Conquest of Westeros (the continent where the plot takes place in the universe of Game Of Thrones / The iron Throne) by Aegon Targaryen and his two sisters, Visenya and Rhaenys. HBO is said to be seriously considering this option.
Variety magazine talks about the American channel’s thoughts on its upcoming plans for the series adaptation of the works of George RR Martin, the writer of the Iron Throne. The sources consulted by the media indicate that HBO is at a very preliminary stage – no screenwriter is attached to the project – but there is talk of a possible port to the cinema.
A development towards the seventh art would constitute a break for HBO, which is more specialized in the production of serialized content for television. If the idea of a film adaptation around Aegon is maintained, the chain could receive the competition of Warner Bros, its parent company. The film could be followed by a series, evokes Variety.
What is the Conquest about?
The Conquest is the key point of reference in the universe of Game Of Thrones. This event marks the beginning of the calendar of the modern era on Westeros and the unification of the various powers of the continent. It was the largest dragon of its era, in any case the largest living and being in Westeros – it is one of the few that escaped the Scourge of Valyria. Until now, we had never heard of a project around Aegon. The other tracks mention a series on Jon Snow, another on Corlys Velaryon, but also proposals around Culpicier, Nymeria or Dunk and the Egg. The status for each of them is unclear. This new Aegon rumor also shows HBO’s hesitation about the post-HotD.
HBO still has some time to make up its mind. Season 2 of House of the Dragon will not arrive before 2024 and the chain would have the intention to produce at least a third, even a fourth. If this development plan is confirmed, it would take the public until 2026, assuming that the channel releases one season per year, which is very optimistic.
