Afghan coats were already an absolute must-have in the hippie era and the 00s. Now the Y2K coats with faux fur collar and cuffs are back!

The current fashion boom from the 2000s is not abating – quite the opposite! We will continue to wear many Y2K styles in the coming year, that’s for sure. The current trend coat originates from the hippie scene and the 00s. We show how the piece is worn today and how you can get hold of your new favorite coat.

The trend goes into the third round

The traditional style of the garment was first adopted en masse by western trade in the 1960s and 1970s. Typically, the coats are made of goatskin or sheepskin and fleece. If we only think of Penny Lane in the millennium classic “Almost Famous”, the so-called “Afghan Coats” are real classics of pop culture. The Afghan coat trend is just further proof that the fashion world of the early ’00s – alongside casual jeans, platform shoes and the trendy center parting – owes a lot to the ’70s.

This is how we wear the trend today

Like so many trends that come back, this one has evolved since its last heyday. Where “Afghan Coats” used to be kept in natural tones, we now show a lot of color. Pink or bright red fringes? Crazy patterns and prints? Bring it on, because now it’s getting colorful! If you prefer to slowly approach the trend, you can also opt for more reserved colors and a little less fake fur.

Pretty much everything that belongs to the classic Y2K styles can be worn with an “Afghan Coat”: Casual jeans, brightly colored mini skirts, chunky knit sweaters, sequins and glitter! The fur look on the sleeves and collar makes every look more interesting right away and gives your outfit a cool twist.

This is how you get your new favorite coat
