Bundesbank President Weidmann resigns
The President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Weidmann, is stepping down for personal reasons. The 53-year-old asks Federal President Steinmeier to be released. Weidmann was the youngest head of the bank to date.
The President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Jens Weidmann, has asked Federal President Steinmeier to be dismissed. This is announced by the Bundesbank. Accordingly, Weidmann asks to be able to resign on December 31 of this year. The decision is made for personal reasons.
“I have come to the conclusion that more than 10 years is a good time to start a new chapter – for the Bundesbank, but also for me personally,” Weidmann is quoted from a letter to his employees. The 53-year-old has been at the helm of the German central bank, based in Frankfurt am Main, since May 2011.
“Over the years, it has been an honor and a matter close to my heart to represent the Bundesbank as an institution – and thus all of you too – and, together with you, to take the bank’s position in the interests of a stable currency, a stable financial system, stable payment systems and a secure cash supply design “, Weidmann writes to his colleagues. At the age of 43 he was the youngest head of the Deutsche Bundesbank to date.
