After 15 years – tearful farewell to Salzburg icon Ulmer!

After 15 years and 582 games for the Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg officially said goodbye to club icon Andreas Ulmer on Sunday! Before the kick-off of the last football championship game against LASK, the 38-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer, was released into his still uncertain sporting future to great applause and with a lot of emotion in the sold-out Red Bull Arena in Wals-Siezenheim.

The club officials, the current teammates, as well as goalgetter Jonatan Soriano and goalie Alexander Walke, two former companions, stood in line for the full-back before kick-off, who ended his subsequent speech in tears. Ulmer had to end the current season early due to an injury. The 32-time ÖFB team player is known to want to continue his active career, but has not yet announced a new club. Ulmer won 13 championship titles with the Bulls and is the record holder in Austria with this number. If you also include the 2005/06 season, in which the Linz player didn’t play a minute in Austria Vienna’s success, but was called up to the squad eight times, the figure is even 14. The second most titles with nine each belong to Austria Vienna. Legend Robert Sara and Christoph Leitgeb (with RB Salzburg) won. Also farewelled were striker Sekou Koita, who is leaving after six and a half years, and goalie coach Herbert Ilsanker, who is moving into scouting after 19 years.
