  • The “Flughafenstädter” won game 5 of the Swiss League playoff final against Olten at home 1-0 and won the final series 4-1.
  • Niki Altorfer scored the only goal of the game in the 29th minute.

After four years in the Swiss League, EHC Kloten will play again in the highest Swiss ice hockey league next season. The Zürcher Unterländer won the playoff final series against EHC Olten 4:1 and thus made promotion perfect.

Coach Jeff Tomlinson’s team took the last step towards returning to the National League with a 1-0 home win in the sold-out arena in Kloten with 7,600 spectators.

Altorfer chooses the match winner

Kloten initially dominated the game at will. The shooting ratio was 18:1 (total 42:24) in the meantime, but it wasn’t until the 29th minute before the hosts took the lead thanks to a power play goal from Niki Altorfer. He scored his sixth goal in these playoffs and was able to be celebrated as the match winner in the end, as Solothurn had no answer to the 0:1.

The Oltners came closest to equalizing in the 46th minute when Eliot Antonietti failed to hit the crossbar. Overall, however, Kloten had everything under control. After the rise of the Kloteners, the National League will consist of 14 teams in the coming season.
