After 58 years – Villacher Alpenstrasse is being completely renovated

The Dobratsch will be difficult to reach by car in the coming weeks. The reason is work on the Alpine Road.

The Alpine Road is of great importance for the Dobratsch excursion destination. More than 120,000 vehicles are counted during the summer season, and in winter there are almost 40,000 visitors. Characteristic are the seven hairpin bends that take visitors over 1200 meters up to the parking lot on the Rosstratten. 35,000 tons of explosives were once necessary to build the road. After 58 years, the road now needs to undergo extensive general renovation. Hikers and those seeking relaxation must therefore expect traffic disruptions and road closures in the coming weeks. This week, the road is already accessible in one lane – due to preparatory work. From September 25th to 29th, the Alpine Road is only accessible to parking lot 6. There are also closures between October 16th and 20th and October 23rd and 25th. During weekends and on public holidays, the road is always two-lane up to Rosstratte. Info: villacher-alpenstrassse.at
