After a failure in the state elections: Eisenmann ends his political career

After a failure in the state election
Eisenmann ends political career

The CDU achieved a historically poor result in the state elections in Baden-Württemberg. Top candidate Eisenmann is now drawing conclusions: At the end of the election period, she will turn her back on politics. Until then, the Minister of Education wants to stay on board because of the pandemic.

The CDU top candidate Susanne Eisenmann, who lost out in the Baden-Württemberg state elections, wants to withdraw from politics at the end of the legislative period, as a spokesman confirmed. "Susanne Eisenmann takes on responsibility and is no longer available for a possible new edition of Grün-Schwarz. For the CDU Baden-Württemberg, however, it must also be clear: That alone will not be enough to get back on track after ten years of downward trend", continued the speaker.

Eisenmann had already said on the evening of the election that she would no longer seek party office and would no longer play a role in the exploratory or coalition negotiations. The Greens with Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann had won the state election with a record result of 32.6 percent. The previously co-governing Southwest CDU fell in its former stronghold on the worst result in its history: 24.1 percent. The green-black coalition could continue to govern, but the Greens also have the option of forming a traffic light alliance with the SPD and FDP.

Eisenmann already spoke on the evening of the election of a "disappointing and disastrous election result". The 56-year-old stressed that she would take responsibility and no longer wanted to seek a leading role in the party.

According to the "Stuttgarter Zeitung", she wants to complete her office as minister of culture until a new government is sworn in. This is necessary not least because of the corona pandemic. The direction in which the doctorate in German studies will be oriented in the future is still completely open, they say.
