Bundeswehr throws two soldiers out

Sexual coercion, racist insults and anti-Semitic songs: the allegations against Bundeswehr soldiers stationed in Lithuania weigh heavily. With two of the twelve accused, the troops are now drawing conclusions. Investigations are still ongoing against others.

The Bundeswehr released two soldiers in April after internal attacks during the NATO mission in Lithuania. A military disciplinary attorney’s office was still undergoing preliminary investigations into judicial disciplinary proceedings against five other men, as an army spokesman said on request. In June, crimes such as sexual assault and libel with a racist background hit the headlines.

At a party in April in a hotel, right-wing extremist and anti-Semitic songs are said to have been sung. The accused were withdrawn, meanwhile the entire German contingent has changed according to schedule. The platoon of the Panzer Grenadier Training Battalion 92 from Munster (Lower Saxony) is to be reorganized by the coming year.

According to the army, the allegations have not been confirmed for three of the twelve soldiers accused. The criminal and disciplinary investigations have been discontinued. Disciplinary measures were imposed on two soldiers in simple disciplinary proceedings.

The two early dismissals were made under Section 55 of the Soldiers Act. This applies to regular soldiers in the first four years of service if their duties are culpably violated or if remaining in service would seriously jeopardize the military order or the reputation of the Bundeswehr.
