After alcohol accident – “I didn’t endanger anyone but myself”

Alko-Lenker Wolfgang Greil (53) does not think about resigning for the time being. What now awaits the mayor of Katsdorf and the head of the state business association as a punishment.

It was a misstep with fatal consequences. Wolfgang Greil (53), ÖVP mayor of Katsdorf, crashed the e-scooter at 3 a.m. on Sunday. He suffered facial injuries and ended up in the hospital. And he faces a hefty fine. Because Greil had a blood alcohol content of 1.82. “Of course it was stupid. I wanted to put the e-scooter in the trunk of my car and drove the few meters. Then I wanted to walk home. That’s only about a kilometer away,” said Greil to the “Krone”. But he didn’t get that far, he had an accident after just a few meters. And because Greil is the mayor of Katsdorf and the state director of the Economic Association, the question of the consequences naturally arises. “I see no reason for consequences. I didn’t endanger anyone but myself,” said the Mühlviertler, who had to have another eye operation on Monday. The Economic Association is clearly behind the politician. “Wolfgang Greil has already taken responsibility for his misconduct. He has also issued a public apology. Of course, there was also a clear discussion internally on the matter,” says Vice-Chairman Thomas Mitterhauser. Your dealings with a top official who was driving a vehicle while intoxicated is a guide for everyone in our state. We will measure the ÖVP by that.” However, there will be at least official consequences for the local chief. Greil was reported and should therefore also face a penalty. How high this is depends on the performance of his e-scooter. It is therefore unclear whether a driver’s license suspension will be effective. “Up to 25 km/h, the scooter is considered a bike. The law does not provide for a withdrawal here,” says Dominik Behr from the BH Perg. Because if the e-scooter goes faster than 25 km/h, then it is considered a moped and that can cost the driver’s license. There is also a fine of between 1600 and 5200 euros.
