After an accident at the competition – a thunderstorm held 160 archers on the mountain

An accident interrupted the major competition at the Austrian 3D Archery Championships in Bad Kleinkirchheim. A thunderstorm even prevented the descent.

More than 500 archers from all over Austria are currently enlivening Bad Kleinkirchheim at the Austrian 3D Championships. On Friday evening, however, there was an unpleasant incident: because an archer injured her foot, the competition at the Kaiserburg middle station had to be interrupted for about 1.5 hours because of the helicopter rescue and the police investigation. Although the cable cars extended their operating hours , 160 athletes stayed behind on the mountain. “Because a thunderstorm came up, operations had to be stopped shortly after 5 p.m. for safety reasons,” says Jakob Forstnig from the tourism association. “Were left out in the rain” Carinthia’s Archery President Wolfgang Halvax is upset: “160 of our athletes then got freezing cold in the rain left behind!” The organizers had to organize their own shuttles to bring everyone safely back down to the valley.
