The Swiss figure skater Kimmy Repond has had an injury-plagued autumn. She will be fit again in time for the European Championships.

January 28, 2023: 16-year-old Kimmy Repond wins bronze in her first European Championship participation in Espoo (FIN) – to the surprise of many and a little to herself too. At the World Championships two months later, the Basel native confirmed her great talent and finished 8th as the third best European woman.

A year later, the former “No Name” has become one of the favorites. “My goal is to get another medal,” says Repond before the European Championships in Kaunas (LTU), where she will be competing in the short program for the first time on Thursday.

Training pain disappeared

Given the difficult first half of the season, the goal sounds ambitious. Repond suffered an injury in September at the “Nebelhorn Trophy” in Oberstdorf, where she finished in second place, and had to significantly reduce her training.

«At the Japan Open I wasn’t able to show my pirouettes as desired. “I had a lot of pain during training,” said the 17-year-old, who first skated at the age of 4. Qualification for the Grand Prix final was out of the question. “That’s why I took a three-week break.”

First Swiss championship title

It seems to have been worth it: “I’m in great shape again and have no more pain,” says Repond happily. At the Swiss Championships in December she won her first title with a superior score of 187.46 points, just below her personal best of 194.09 points.

“We were recently able to work on details and had Zoom meetings with David Wilson (your Canadian choreographer, editor’s note)», says the passionate piano player, this year about the soulful titles Voila (Barbara Pravi) and Freya (Christian Reindl/Lucie Paradis) is running.
