Former world-class keeper goes into therapy

For the former world-class goalkeeper Hope Solo, the time after the active career is not only happy. At the end of March she was arrested in North Carolina. She is said to have fallen asleep drunk in a parking lot with the engine running, her twins in the back seat. Therapy is her solution.
Because of her alcohol problems, former soccer world champion Hope Solo (USA) is undergoing addiction therapy. The 40-year-old announced her decision a good month after her temporary arrest for drink driving and endangering her children. The former world-class goalkeeper went to a clinic for the withdrawal.
“I am voluntarily entering inpatient treatment to address alcohol challenges,” Solo wrote in the social media: “All my energy and focus is now on my health, healing and caring for my family.”
According to media reports, the two-time Olympic champion was arrested in the parking lot of a shopping center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the end of March. According to witnesses, Solo slept at the wheel for more than an hour with the engine running while her two-year-old twin children sat in the back seat. Her lawyer later announced the immediate release of the popular ex-player and initially downplayed the incident.
Solo won Olympic gold with the US women’s national team in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Three years after her second Olympic victory, the keeper was also between the posts in the US team’s World Cup triumph. As a result of therapy, the US Soccer Hall of Fame granted Solo’s own request to delay her scheduled induction for the current year to 2023. “Thank you for your support and understanding of my decision,” Solo said.
This was not the first time the former goalkeeper made acquaintance with the police in the Winston-Salem incident. Solo was arrested eight years ago after allegedly assaulting her half-sister and 17-year-old nephew at a family gathering. The case was later dismissed. Solo stated she acted in self-defense.
