After Asterix, Guillaume Canet will play an unexpected historical character!

An unexpected costume for Guillaume Canet! After Asterix, he will be Louis XVI and will play one of the main roles in Le Déluge, with Mélanie Laurent as Marie-Antoinette.

Surprise ! Guillaume Canet will go from the costume of Asterix to that of… Louis XVI! Guillaume Canet has just finished filming a costume film, written and directed by Gianluca Jodice, as revealed Cineeuropa.

Entitled Le Déluge, the film will tell the last days of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. The latter is interpreted by Mélanie Laurent.

Around Guillaume Canet and Mélanie Laurent, Aurore Broutin, Hugo Dillon, Tom Hudson, Roxane Duran, Anouk Darwin Homewood, Vidal Arzoni and Fabrizio Rongione are also announced in the casting.

Mélanie Laurent and Guillaume Canet had already shared the poster for the same film, 6 years ago: Mon Garçon by Christian Carion, released in September 2017.

Until now, Guillaume Canet had not lent himself to the exercise of period film in costume. This is the first time we will see him in the role of a king. On the historical film side, we could see him in The Brother of the Warrior by Pierre Jolivet, Cézanne et moi by Danièle Thompson, or, in another register, Vidocq by Pitof. The release date of Deluge is not yet known.
