After “Ballon d’Or robbery”
Lewandowski is supposed to plan an escape from Bavaria
Lewandowski’s second place in the Ballon d’Or election sends shock waves. Is the Pole still convinced of the Bundesliga? In the past few years he has repeatedly flirted with a move to Real Madrid. According to Spanish media reports, it could now be concrete.
Robert Lewandowski and no end. It was only on Monday that Lionel Messi’s Ballon d’Or was stolen from the Poles. At least that is the perception of those who refused to believe that the Bundesliga scorer played worse than the Argentine last year. But the problems begin with the term “Bundesliga scorer”. Because it is like this: The German top league is only considered to be second class in international comparison, it has too little appeal beyond national borders or, at most, the language borders. The star of Bayern Munich is said to have recognized that, reports the Spanish newspaper “AS”.
Thus, only two days before the German classic, the rumors that have accompanied the star of FC Bayern Munich through his career pop up again, but that never got beyond the status of a rumor. Once again Lewandowski should flirt with a move to Real Madrid, also to keep his last chance at the coveted Ballon d’Or and the associated international recognition for eternity. If “France Football”, the organizer of the election, should not have mercy and hand over the award for 2020 to the 33-year-old retrospectively, that seems hardly possible in Germany.
Giant in the dwarf country
And so, according to “AS”, Lewandowski is said to have instructed his agent, Pini Zahavi, to prepare a move to Real Madrid. Zahavi already managed to get David Alaba up with Los Blancos last summer. He is considered a tough dog. Real Madrid is facing another upheaval. The Frenchman Kylian Mbappé is said to come from Paris St. Germain – and could make the change for the coming season at the beginning of January, because Mbappé’s contract in Paris is known to expire. He does not seem to be very interested in an extension, as early as the summer of 2021 rumors of an imminent move to the Spanish giant persisted until the last day of the transfer period. According to all that we know, it is only postponed and not canceled.
Lewandowski, who is under contract with FC Bayern until 2023, has been a candidate for Real Madrid for a long time. No wonder: the Pole has been one of the most accurate strikers in the world for years. He rarely takes a break and always delivers. Whether against Barcelona in the Champions League or Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga. This season the Pole has an unbelievable 25 goals in just 20 competitive games for FC Bayern, nine of which he scored in just five games in Europe’s premier league. For years he has outstripped all other Bundesliga players with his hit rate. Heretically speaking: a giant in dwarf country.
“AS” now reports that Lewandowski wants to do everything possible to move to Real Madrid next summer, also to outdo his Dortmund rival Erling Haaland. The Norwegian is also about to jump out of the Bundesliga. Even if Borussia Dortmund does not yet want to admit the end of the Haaland era and continues to believe in public that the future superstar of world football will remain.
The Benzema problem
With that, however, you are left alone in the corridor. For both strikers, however, the door actually seems locked. Because with Karim Benzema Real Madrid still has one of the top strikers in the world under contract. For the German world champion Toni Kroos even the top star. He, the former international said in his podcast this week, should have been the actual winner of the Ballon d’Or.
So a question of timing and not an easy situation for Real Madrid, but maybe the only way to sign either Haaland or Lewandowski. Both players will only be on the market once, decide to move and then either play for a few years at their new club or, in the case of the Pole, most likely end their careers.
At Haaland in particular, Real Madrid expects competition from all over Europe and the one from England in particular has strong arguments. Haaland was born there, his father played for Manchester City there and with Ralf Rangnick he hired someone from Manchester United who has accompanied the Norwegian for a long time and who even received a “head bonus” of ten million euros for signing BVB -Stars should receive, as the “Bild” reports.
Now, of course, it is important to note: All of these are rumors. None of these are hard facts. But there are indications that the Bundesliga will lose two of its biggest stars in the coming summer.
