Director Greta Gerwig has big things ahead of her again. After “Barbie” she once again dives into a fantastic world. This is none other than one of the most famous in history: Narnia.

- Whether the films will tell the same story as Disney’s, or whether they will adapt one of the other seven books, is not yet known.
The long-awaited “Barbie” film by Greta Gerwig will be released in German cinemas on July 20, 2023. Now that she has apparently brought this huge project to a safe haven, the director is already faced with the next big challenge.
As the US magazine “The Hollywood Reporter” now reports, Gerwig is to remake the “Chronicles of Narnia” saga for Netflix. Two films are planned so far, which the director is supposed to conduct.
The remake of the successful novel series by author CS Lewis has been on the Netflix table since 2018. But since the announcement of their project, the streaming service has not given any further updates on the work on “Narnia”.
Disney brought the fantasy book series The Chronicles of Narnia: The King of Narnia to the big screen in 2005. Other films followed with “Prince Caspian of Narnia” and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, which accompany the siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy on their adventure through Narnia.
It is not yet known whether the Netflix films will adapt the same books as Disney. Netflix has not yet commented on Gerwig’s takeover of the directorship either. But Gerwig’s participation would be a great asset for the film, because her previous films “Lady Bird” and “Little Women” have been nominated for an Oscar several times.
Of course, films based on the books “The Silver Chair”, “The Ride After Narnia”, “The Miracle of Narnia” and “The Last Fight” that have not yet been made into a film would be desirable. Since the book series is a chronicle with various multiverses, the Netflix and Disney films could coexist without competing against each other.
“The Chronics of Narnia” tells the story of various children from our world who repeatedly travel to the parallel world of Narnia and experience adventures there.
