From pink plastic to the real estate war. After the box of barbiewhich grossed $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office, production company LuckyChap, led by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, is developing a film based on the popular board game Monopoly.

Produced by Hasbro Entertainment and studio Lionsgate Entertainment, this project to adapt the real estate management game has been in development since 2015, when a partnership was signed between the two companies. This agreement was extended to 2023, and the project finally seems to be taking off with the arrival of Margot Robbie’s company and her partners.

We don’t yet know the story of this feature film. Monopoly will tell, but Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, said Luckychap “had a clear vision” of the film.

Created in 1935, the game Monopoly is one of the most popular in the world. It exists in 37 languages ​​and has sold more than 275 million copies, not counting the success of its numerous video game versions.

The project doesn’t yet have a writer or director attached, but it’s not the only game adaptation in development from Margot Robbie and her associates. LuchyChap is also preparing a film based on the video game The Simswhich is to be directed by Kate Herron (Loki, Sex Education).
