“After careful consideration”: Post boss Appel will withdraw in 2023

“After careful consideration”
Post boss Appel will retire in 2023

Frank Appel has been CEO of Deutsche Post AG since 2008. As the listed company announced today, the supervisory board has now only extended its contract until the beginning of May 2023, as it is “no longer available for another full term of office” – and has announced the successor.

Post boss Frank Appel is stepping down from the top of the company. As the listed company announced today, the supervisory board only extended Appel’s contract until the beginning of May 2023, since it was “no longer available for another full term of office”. He is to be succeeded by the current Post & Parcel Germany boss Tobias Meyer.

Appel will lead the group until the annual general meeting on May 4, 2023. He had decided “after careful consideration” not to serve another full term, said the Post boss. His previous contract ran until the end of October 2022.

He handed over the scepter “to the best of his knowledge” that the Post “is run by an excellent management team and supported by a highly motivated workforce”. He could not wish for a better successor than Meyer, continued Appel.

The company praised Meyer as a “recognized expert on the group”. He has been with Swiss Post since 2013 and was most recently a member of the Executive Board and Head of the Post & Parcel Germany division. By July 2022, Meyer should already take over partial tasks from Appel. He will then hand over the management of the Post & Parcel Germany division to Nikola Hagleitner, who will then move into the Group’s executive board.

Chairman of the Supervisory Board Nikolaus von Bomhard recognized Appel’s “outstanding achievements” in over 13 years at the helm of the Post. In February 2008, Appel became CEO of the listed group. Before that, he had been a member of the Executive Board since 2020. The supervisory board thanks him, so von Bomhard, now for an “orderly transition”.
