After Google Chromejust a few days ago, it’s now the turn of Microsoft Edge to propose a new update that corrects a major security flaw.

Two days ago, we encouraged you to apply the Google Chrome update as soon as possible to correct a flaw zero day. Now it’s Microsoft’s turn to follow suit and deploy a major patch to its web browser.

Microsoft Edge follows Google Chrome and fixes a critical flaw

Only a few hours ago, the Redmond firm deployed a new update aimed at correcting a flaw of the type zero day. The same that hit Google Chrome on July 4th. Microsoft’s browser is also based on Chromium, so it was inevitably affected by this flaw. This is why the American giant quickly followed in the footsteps of the Mountain View firm, without providing us with more details about this patch.

As a reminder, this flaw, named “CVE-2022-2294”, can allow malicious people to affect the proper functioning of your browser or to access your personal data. So be sure to check that you have the most recent version of Microsoft Edge, which has the number 103.0.1264.48.

In order to proceed with this update on Microsoft Edge, and provided that it has not been applied automatically, you must first go to the three-point menu, located at the top right of your window . Finally, go to “Help and feedback”, then “About Microsoft Edge”.

Microsoft Edge

  • Stable, fast, easy to handle
  • Secure environment (automatic and instant updates of the Chromium database)
  • Promising upcoming features (Drop, Secure Network)

With this version of Edge built on Chromium, Microsoft has recovered from the Internet Explorer turmoil. Stable, secure and accessible to all, the browser combines intuitive handling and advanced features to offer a fluid and complete user experience. We also appreciate its very good integration with the Microsoft ecosystem (Windows, Office 365, OneDrive, Teams, etc.) thanks to the user account.

Despite its qualities, Edge, like Chrome which it hopes to one day dethrone, proves to be catastrophic in terms of privacy management. Because if we can welcome efforts to strengthen confidentiality (protection against tracking, reinforced security mode, SmartScreen), the browser is nonetheless a formidable tool for collecting personal information which, cross-checked with the data transmitted by other Microsoft services, make it possible to establish a detailed profile of Internet users, lucrative for the company as well as for advertisers.
