After crash – drunk e-biker now faces hefty punishment

A 42-year-old German woman fell on her e-bike in the Vorarlberg community of Riezlern with scratches on her face and injuries to her arms and legs. The woman also faces a hefty fine. The reason: she was traveling at 1.6 per mille.

On Tuesday around 5:20 p.m., the 42-year-old steered her electric bike from the center of Riezlern down the valley towards the Viehscheid area. While turning, the German hit the edge of the sidewalk and subsequently lost control of her two-wheeler. Helmet prevented anything worse from happening. She fell forward over the handlebars and hit the asphalt. In the fall, the woman suffered injuries to her face, both arms and legs. Fortunately, she was wearing a helmet when she fell, which probably saved her from even more serious injuries. There is a risk of a high penalty. However, the helmet did not offer any protection when it came to alcohol. According to the police, the lady had a blood alcohol level of over 1.6 at the time of the accident, which is why she was reported to the district administration. And that can be expensive! There is an alcohol limit of 0.8 per mille for cyclists. From 1.6 per mille you can expect a fine of at least 1,600 euros, and in the event of a repeat offense even up to 5,900 euros.
