After Elon Musk’s Manchester United joke, Glazer speculation

(Boursier.com) — At the bottom of the hole as the season is just beginning, supporters of Manchester United were able to dream for a few hours last night. Tired of the management of the club by the Glazer family, fans of Cristiano Ronaldo’s team once believed that ManU was going to be bought by the whimsical boss of Tesla after a tweet from the latter: “and I buy Manchester United, You’re welcome”.

Faced with the euphoria aroused on the social network, Elon Musk quickly returned to his first tweet: “No, it’s a joke (…). I haven’t planned to buy any sports club”.

Last in the Premier League after two days and a 4-0 defeat at Brentford this weekend, ManU weighs just over $2 billion on Wall Street. A trifle for the richest man on the planet who does not seem however that little interested in this type of investment.

Britain’s ‘The Daily Mirror’ newspaper reported last year that the Glazers, who have faced widespread opposition from fans over their management of the club since it was acquired in 2005 for £790m, were ready to sell, but only if they received an offer of more than 4 billion pounds.

This Wednesday, quoting people close to the American family, ‘Bloomberg’ claims that the Glazers could sell a minority stake in the club to the 20 titles of champion of England. The owners have held preliminary talks about bringing in a new investor, the agency’s sources said, noting that the family is not yet ready to hand over full control of ManU, which could be valued near of £5 billion ($6 billion).

After jumping at the start of the session, the title reduced its gains and only advanced 1.7% on Wall Street.
