After Fiasco, it’s the most viewed series on Netflix: should you watch A Real Man?

“A Real Man” landed like a tidal wave on Netflix. The mini-series created by David E. Kelley and carried by Jeff Daniels is already 2nd in the top behind Fiasco. But is it worth a look according to subscribers?

What are we watching this week on Netflix? If you took a look at our article on the top 5 of the week, then you surely noticed the presence in the ranking of A Man, a Real Man, the latest creation by David E. Kelley (who has signed very good series in recent years). Without any promotion, she managed to climb the rankings and now finds herself 2nd, behind Fiasco. But is it still worth a look?

With an average rating of 3.2/5, A Real Man seems to have been moderately convincing. The series, which follows an Atlanta real estate tycoon doing everything to get back on track while his empire collapses, indeed has a particularity: all the characters are detestable.

Whether it is the hero, his ex-wife who seeks revenge, the banker who intends to take advantage of the misfortune of his former client, the mayor of the city ready to do anything to get re-elected… This production aims to be a snapshot of society American, but it doesn’t seem to please everyone.

Excellent actors, but a botched ending

If we carefully read the few comments already available on the A Man, a Real page, subscribers especially praise the performances of the actors. It must be said that Jeff Daniels delivers an insane performance as Charlie Crooker, a man who refuses nothing and who does not want to give up his privileges.

Whether it’s Diane Lane (who plays his ex-wife), William Jackson Harper (seen in The Good Place) who offers himself a role against the job that suits him perfectly or even Bill Camp (a banker who dreams of being a fall Crooker), they were all invested in their respective characters.

“Excellent series, we laugh a lot even if some moments are not so for the one who finds himself in prison, Lucy Liu has a small role in the series, the main actor and the banker are excellent and the ending is perfect. We’re having a good time.” (Ja Z)

“The actors are great, the sets are perfect. But I give it a bad rating because the end of the series is completely botched.” (Malika).

“Unfortunately, after a start which stunned me, the bellows subsided a little afterwards. The series lost its way a little and the altercations became more reasonable. And then the ending is quite disappointing in my opinion.” (Read H)

“A very good US series on the world of business and the shenanigans that go with it. The actor The main character is very charismatic and portrays his character brilliantly. A rhythmic production with punchy dialogues and colorful characters which is reminiscent of the excellent Succession series. A great new Netflix release that I highly recommend!” (Lyah)

You’ll love to hate the characters in this series and it’s from the creator of Big Little Lies!

“Very good series led by veterans of US TV (David E Kelley on creation, Jeff Daniels, John Michael Hill and Lucy Liu) and newcomers (William Jackson Harper seen in “the good place”). The series is interesting even if it is quite far from the book by Tom Wolfe on which it is inspired. It’s rhythmic, fun, with suspense, the production and the image are of good quality. If we had to link this series to a reference of current production, we could cite “succession” for the quality of the writing, the world of business and the quality of the overall interpretation.” (Marjolaine A)

“A great surprise. From memory I have rarely (never?) seen a series where there is no “secondary” character. There is a perfect balance in the space given to each person’s issues. And no character is stereotypical. And we even get an ending. It’s definitely a success in every way.” (Stéphane D)

“Rather a good series, but the ending is completely botched, even pathetic. In addition to some plot conveniences which spoil the scenario.” (Port A)

With 6 short episodes, A Real Man has the advantage of being a series that can be watched relatively quickly and which is perfect for the upcoming public holidays. Are you going to let yourself be tempted?
