After grain deal: Russia shells port of Odessa

Bundestag Vice President Katrin Göring-Eckardt sees no basis for trust in President Vladimir Putin, even after the agreement with Russia on Ukrainian grain exports via the Black Sea. “Putin is not to be trusted. The day after the grain agreement, he had the port of Odessa attacked,” the Green politician told the editorial network Germany (RND) on Saturday about Ukrainian information that the port of Odessa in the south of the country had apparently been hit by Russian missiles.

“This is the next break with the United Nations. That cannot go unanswered,” she urged. The Green politician was only in Odessa on Friday and returned to Berlin on Saturday after a visit to Moldova. “Putin is deceiving Ukraine and the world community. We’ve been experiencing this since 2014.” At that time, the head of the Kremlin annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. “This senseless, illegal Russian war is in a crucial phase,” warned Göring-Eckardt. She continued: “It is now important to be absolutely clear and to give our full support to Ukraine, thereby defending our common freedom.”
