In southern Austria and Slovenia, heavy rainfall has led to flooding and mudslides.
The road connections to some towns in the province of Carinthia were interrupted.
According to local media reports, at least three people have died in Slovenia.
The district of Völkermarkt in the Austrian state of Carinthia was particularly affected. The local authorities in Austria called on people to only make necessary trips with their cars. In view of the water masses, the help of the Austrian army was requested.
According to the Austrian Motorists Club, numerous border crossings between Austria and Slovenia were closed due to flooding and mud and debris avalanches, including the Loibl Pass.
In the province of Burgenland, 70 liters of rain per square meter were measured overnight in the Jennersdorf district. Firefighters responded to pump out water and remove fallen trees. Flooding also occurred in Styria. According to the supplier Energie Steiermark, around 4,000 households were without electricity on Friday morning.
