RECOMMENDED FROM 3 YEARS

Since April 5, you have an appointment in dark rooms to discover (or rediscover for the lucky ones who have already been able to see it on stage) the film of the show Princes and Princesses, which is revealed on the big screen.

After having gathered more than 800,000 curious people in 8 years of touring, this poetic and surprising journey will now amaze young and old at the cinema in its filmed version.

BASED ON THE WORK OF MICHEL OCELOT, KIRIKOU’S DAD

The show Princes and Princesses is based on the tales of French screenwriter and director Michel Ocelot, who many know in particular for the unforgettable Kirikou and the Witch, his first feature film released in 1998 and which made such an impression.

On the screen, we follow the stories of The Dancing Shepherdess, The Prince of Jewels And The Fig Boywhich come alive throughout the journey of The Old Lady and the Thiefthe common thread of the story.

It is by embodying the character of Kirikou on stage in the musical Kirikou and Karabathat the choreographer and director Legrand Bemba-Debert fell in love with the work of Michel Ocelot, which he in turn decided to adapt with a very specific idea in mind.

AN ORIGINAL DIRECTION

“During the Kirikou and Karaba tour, I discovered the magic of silhouettes through one of the paintings in the show. I was fascinated, convinced that we could put on an entire show with this technique,” he says. This is what he does by offering a show in Chinese shadows, which surprises as much as it enchants!

Its decorations which evolve over the tales and its superb palette of colors take us on a journey from Japan to Egypt, via Persia and Africa. Through these four paintings, Legrand Bemba-Debert wanted to guarantee the authenticity and magic of Michel Ocelot’s universe, while adding his personal touch.

Thanks to this recording, the director can now present his project to as many people as possible: “I had conceived Princes and Princesses as a universal spectacle intended to be seen by all the children of the world. But the tour had been too short. The capture was the perfect opportunity to forget my frustration”.

Legrand Bemba-Debert

“The big screen allows another form of immersion for those who are not used to theater, while preserving the magic.” Perfectly adapted to the youngest with a duration of one hour, the film of the family show Princes and Princesses is to be discovered at the cinema at the moment.
