  • The implementation of this measure is still tied to legal requirements, according to the municipality’s announcement.

At the end of August there was a landslide in the Wagenrunse area in Schwanden in the municipality of Glarus Süd. Since then, nothing has been the same, especially for the residents who had to leave their homes.

Now, three and a half months later, the canton and the municipality have created an event-related hazard map. The consequence: People who have their homes in the so-called red danger area are not allowed to return. There is an “immediate danger to life and limb” there. The local council is therefore forced to act, says mayor Hansruedi Forrer.

Demolition orders in the red zone

In concrete terms, this means that buildings in this area must be demolished, says the municipality of Glarus Süd. The orders will be sent out soon. The people affected will be invited to discussions in December.
