To convince in photography on smartphones, more and more brands are partnering with optical specialists. OnePlus got the ball rolling with Hasselblad, Vivo followed with Zeiss, then Xiaomi partnered with Leica.

According to reputable leaker Digital Chat Station, the next brand specializing in photography to enter the smartphone market would be Canon. More specifically, the company would be in discussion with various brands, without further details. We will not risk a prognosis on Canon’s future partner brand.

Remember that these agreements between companies specializing in optics and smartphone manufacturers never relate to the improvement of smartphone hardware. Clearly, they do not intervene on the optics, the lenses or even the sensors. Hasselblad, Zeiss and Leica are content to guide their partners in improving the algorithmic processing of photos as consultants.

Google, Apple and Samsung don’t need it

These agreements undoubtedly allow smartphone brands to gain credibility thanks to prestigious names. The fact remains that each time we do a blind test, the smartphones that tend to win are not those associated with a big name in photography.

Google, Apple and Samsung, not to mention them, are often found in the top square of the most popular brands in photos and videos. However, none of them has such a partnership. Converselywe can assume that Huawei and Honor, today at the top of the DXOMARK ranking in the photo, were able to benefit from their former partnership with Leica.
