After months of rumors evoking the departure of the Oppo brand from France, the ax has finally fallen. Yang Technology, the exclusive distributor of the brand in France, has just announced the cessation of its activity. This therefore means that it will no longer be possible to obtain Oppo products from this distributor.

The firm, which is not linked to Oppo Monde, has been collaborating with the brand since its arrival in France. In fact, Oppo could therefore maintain a form of presence without going through this entity. It should be possible to buy from some retailers. But this decision means that its physical and media presence of Oppo will be greatly reduced. In his email, Yang Technology specifies that the follow-up of the products already purchased will be ensured by the manufacturer.

Yang Technology SAS, exclusive distributor of the Oppo brand in France, has decided to cease its activities in the territory. However, customer service is taken over by Oppo; thus, all users can continue to use Oppo products, access after-sales services, receive future operating system updates, etc.

Declaration of Yang Technology SAS.

Yang Technology thus announces its departure when it has just won an important lawsuit in the patent war which opposed it to Nokia.

We have received the decisions of the Court of Justice of Paris, the French judge declares that the EP486 and EP731 patents of Nokia are considered invalid for the reason of lack of novelty. Thus, Oppo won the trial at first instance after a two-year court case over Nokia’s EP486 and EP731 patents. […] Oppo has always been committed to promoting a healthy intellectual property ecosystem. We respect the court’s decision and believe it is strong evidence of our commitment to intellectual property and innovation recognized in France.

Statement from Oppo.

The Finnish company claimed money from the brand for the use of licenses for 4G/5G-related technology. Despite the news, the distributor still confirmed his departure. It must be said that there is a good chance that Nokia will initiate an appeal procedure. Everything therefore seems to indicate that the next step will be judicial liquidation.
