February 2024, Google is in trouble on the AI front. At that time, its image generation tool was indeed reinventing history, for example depicting white characters (like the founding fathers of the United States) or German soldiers from the Nazi era as people of color.
Finally, we had to wait until the end of August to hear about the generation of people at Google again. The Mountain View firm announced on August 28, 2024 the return of this functionality for its Gemini AI through a brand new dedicated language model: Imagen 3.
Image 3
With this, Google first mentions having improved the quality of the images generated, with the added bonus of being able to “create images in different styles – photorealistic landscapes, textured oil paintings or whimsical scenes in modeling clay”.
Our design principles are clear: from start to finish, you are in control of the creation process. If the initial image you get doesn’t meet your expectations, simply tell Gemini what you want to change and it will propose a new image.
Generation of people
Another part then mentions the generation of images of people, which will make its big comeback “in the coming days” for Gemini Advanced users, followed by Business and Enterprise customers (only in the language of Shakespeare).
The American company points out in passing that Imagen 3 does not allow the generation of images of “photorealistically identifiable people, representations of minors or excessively gory, violent or sexual scenes”.
Gems
In addition to these new features on the image generation side, Google has announced the deployment of its competitor to ChatGPT’s GPTs: Gems. It is thus possible to sculpt a custom personal assistant tailored for specific tasks.
The company is also launching five Gems of its own design:
- The Learning Coach: Helps you break down complex topics to make them easier to understand
- The Brainstormer: Easily gives you inspiration
- The Career Guide: Helps you unlock your professional potential
- The Editor: Improves your writing with clear, constructive feedback on everything from grammar to structure
- The Coding Partner: Hones your coding skills and helps you build projects and learn as you go.
Gems are already available in French, but remain reserved for Gemini Advanced, Gemini Business and Gemini Entreprise members.
Google Gemini
The long-awaited Gemini (Google Bard), the AI-powered conversational agent developed by Google, is being rolled out as a free online service and a mobile application for Android devices.
