After more than 70 years – the new Toyota Land Cruiser remains so “real”.

The Toyota Land Cruiser was Japan’s answer to the classic Jeep off-roader more than 70 years ago. Now it comes with modern technology in a new edition. The robust all-wheel drive vehicle can be ordered from October and should be on our roads at the beginning of 2024. With classic ladder frame and diesel engine.

With a length of 4.92 meters, the new edition remains true to the format of the off-roader that was recently no longer offered in Europe. The angular look with many right angles is also known from other versions of the traditional model built since 1951. Compared to the direct predecessor model, the front design in particular, with its round headlights and the brand logo in the radiator grille, has strong retro features. The interior of the Land Cruiser, which can be ordered with five or seven seats, is bulky but elegantly clad. The instruments are completely digital, the defining element is a wide center console with the off-road instruments and a high-mounted touch screen in landscape format. More off-road competent than its predecessor? The ladder frame variant of Toyota’s TNGA architecture is used as the platform, which, among other things also used by the Tundra pick-up model. Compared to the previous model, the new one should be significantly stiffer, which would increase off-road competence and driving comfort. In addition, a detachable anti-roll bar and the first electrically powered power steering should make it easier to make headway, even on rough terrain. In Western Europe, a 2.8-liter turbo diesel with 204 hp will initially be used as the drive system. The four-cylinder is coupled to an eight-speed gearbox and pulls trailers weighing up to 3500 kilograms. A 48-volt mild hybrid variant has been announced for 2025. All-wheel drive is standard in both cases. (SPX)
