After Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan: China shows military strength

Beijing is trying to intimidate the island republic with maneuvers and rocket exercises. Tensions with Japan are also increasing.

No sooner had Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, left Taiwan on Wednesday evening than China’s military got serious. According to the Taiwanese military, ten ships crossed the so-called center line in the Taiwan Strait before midnight. Military jets also flew over the line that both countries normally accept as the unofficial border of their spheres of influence.
