After Resch’s resignation – the state councilor looks at the mayor’s chair

As part of a “Corona get-together” in Krems, FPÖ regional councilor Susanne Rosenkranz declared that she wanted to become mayor. But that’s not very realistic – at least in the near future.

In the local council election in 2022, Krems FPÖ leader Susanne Rosenkranz received almost as many percent (around 15) as the designated SPÖ mayor Peter Molnar received preferential votes (16). Reason enough for Rosenkranz, who became state councilor and is popular in Krems, to challenge Molnar in his apparently approaching election as city boss. As “Krone” readers know, she sees the impending resignation of SPÖ Mayor Reinhard Resch as a “voter deception” because Resch ran with a list of names and is therefore calling for new elections. However, it seems unrealistic that there will be a new edition of the municipal committee. Even if, as planned, there is “only” a new election for the mayor, Rosenkranz wants to challenge Molnar. When there is a runoff election To do this, the designated Resch successor would not have to receive a simple majority among the 40 local councilors and Rosenkranz would have to receive the second most votes – a runoff election would be the consequence. An equally rather unrealistic scenario. Or as the Krems SPÖ club chairman Helmut Mayer says: Ms. State Councilor wants to become mayor of Krems with her entire team of six representatives. How this will turn out is anyone’s guess.” One thing is certain: If Rosenkranz becomes mayor sooner or later, she would also have to give up the office of regional councilor.
