Created by Marvel in 1976, the latter is part of the European Defense Initiative, the European Avengers. Imagined by Chris Claremont and designer Herb Trimpe, the character appears for the first time in the comics Captain Britain Weekly.
Designed primarily for the UK market, Brian Braddock, aka Captain Britain, is the equivalent of Captain America. It will later be incorporated into comic books for the international market.

“If I had to play a Marvel superhero, I wouldn’t choose a character that’s already been played by someone else because everyone is doing such a great job.
However, I’ve seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and it would be a lot of fun to do a cool, modern version of that character – like they modernized Captain America. (…) I love being British.”
