The hunt for “illegal” swimming pools continues
For several months now, the Directorate General of Public Finance (or DGFIP) has been tracking, with the help of artificial intelligence, swimming pools that have not been declared in France. Recently, we learned that more than 120,000 owners have been challenged in this way, the latter having “omitted” to declare their construction.
The owners in question were notified by mail and ordered to regularize the situation within 30 days. In 2023, the control tool used by the DGFIP (whose value is estimated at 24 million euros) could thus bring in between 40 and 50 million euros… for swimming pools.
Hard extensions also in the sights of the DGFIP
Indeed, in the columns of South WestAntoine Magnant, Deputy Director General of the DGFIP, explains his desire to “ target hard extensions, which can lead to a revaluation of the property’s value and an adjustment of the IFI “. In other words, the AI already used to spot “illegal” swimming pools will be put to use for other uses.
The objective of the DGFIP is also to track, still by air, constructions and other extensions that are not listed in the cadastral map. Verandas, garages, garden sheds and other constructions exceeding a certain area may in turn be subject to control, and possibly regularization by the owner, with all the resulting tax consequences. .
