Airbnb will now impose a verification on your reservations to determine if you are likely to organize a big party in the accommodations offered for rent on its platform.

This measure aims to implement Airbnb’s decision to ban parties during a rental.

Prevent young people from partying in Airbnbs

Last June, the global vacation rental company banned parties altogether from its accommodations. This measure was taken at the start of the COVID crisis out of concern for public health, but it was made permanent last June. It’s proven to be good for business, as parties that destroy homes are bad for Airbnb’s reputation. And obviously, it is first of all the owners that the platform seeks to protect.

Using new technology, Airbnb has determined a number of criteria that categorize certain tenants as “ party promoters “. These are based on the tenant’s history, comments on his profile and age, but also on the characteristics of his stay. Thus, if the tenant only stays for one night, over a weekend, Airbnb considers that he could well be an evening initiator.

A very effective anti-party measure

This measure seems complicated to implement, because many people might want to go on an Airbnb for a weekend, and the reviews could be unreliable, even misleading. But apparently it is an effective method.

Indeed, Airbnb first tested its new technology in Australia, where the rate of unauthorized parties in rental accommodations was reportedly reduced by 35% thanks to it. Thus, Airbnb has prevented young people under the age of 25 from booking a large accommodation near their home, especially in the absence of positive comments on their profiles.
