Following the controversy to which she was the subject on the evening of the election of Miss France 2022, Miss Aquitaine decided to take a stand. In an interview for Konbini, Ambre Andrieu calls on the image professions (hairdressers, make-up artists) to be more open to diversity.

As every year, the show was very commented on the web, which is not necessarily good news for the candidates … Indeed, social networks are not always kind to the Misses. This year, Miss Aquitaine’s haircut has been heavily criticized. Faced with the controversy, Ambre Andrieu even reacted, indicating that she wanted her African hair straightened but that she was disappointed with the result. In an interview with Konbini this Wednesday, December 22, Ambre Andrieu goes further and launches an appeal. For her, the image professions must be open to diversity.
“All the time I think I do my hair on my own”
If the Aveyronnaise recalls having chosen that we relax her hair at Miss France, she recognizes that the choice of her cut is not always her responsibility. The 22-year-old model regrets not always finding a “dedicated dressing tables” to his hair type : “It often happens to me that I am told to come with an afro hair, so my everyday haircut, for a shoot.“, she relates.”All the time I think I do my hair on my own“, she specifies. And that is not acceptable for Miss Aquitaine 2021:”It is a problem. It creates a different treatment, like it’s harder or doesn’t deserve as much attention as Caucasian hair. And that can create complexes“, she laments.
For Miss Aquitaine, the image professions must question themselves
But this discrimination does not stop only at the hair. This aspiring engineer regrets that makeup artists are not more seasoned in this area: “It happened to me to see a lot of girls with dark or dark skin tones applying makeup on their own“, she remembers.”I’m here to give my image, to work as a model, not as a makeup artist, it’s not for me to do it“, she breathes. The solution: to talk about it. For the student, the younger generations have “the will to master all textures“, which is not always the case with the most experienced. She therefore calls “those who have more years the profession” to supplement their knowledge, even “Make a formation”. A fundamental problem that could be resolved, according to her, if “more models with black and dark skin are recruited”. The image professions have therefore “a little work to do”, according to the beauty queen. “But it is happening“, she congratulates herself.
