• A ship is due to arrive in the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk, in the south of the country, on Saturday to load grain there. On Friday morning, three ships loaded with a total of more than 58,000 tonnes of maize left Ukrainian ports. They will serve Ireland, the United Kingdom and Turkey.
• Amnesty International’s director in Ukraine, Oksana Pokalchuk, announced his resignation on Friday, after the publication of a report by the NGO pointing to Ukrainian tactics that endanger civilians, M^me Pokalchuk denounced the choice of the international office not to have included the Ukrainian team in its investigation
• Rockets were fired on Friday near a nuclear reactor at the Zaporizhia power plant. A high voltage line was damaged in this attack, triggering the shutdown of one of the reactors of the plant, the largest in Europe. Russia has denied responsibility, accusing Ukraine of “nuclear terrorism”.
• The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, met in Sochi and decided to strengthen energy and economic cooperation. The two presidents have agreed that deliveries of Russian gas to Turkey will be “partially paid in rubles”.
• In the field, the Russians bombed Mykolaiv again on Friday. About 20 people were injured, including a 14-year-old boy at the entrance to a church, and apartment buildings were damaged. A curfew has been introduced in this city until Monday morning.
• Ukrainian forces are conducting a counter-offensive in the south, where they claim to have recaptured more than fifty villages that had previously fallen to Russian soldiers. According to observers, Russia is redeploying its forces towards southern Ukraine to respond to the Ukrainian army’s counter-offensive.
