- The Graubünden municipality of Albula/Alvra has declared the blue phase – the highest of the five danger levels.
- This means: An event that can endanger the village is imminent.
- Up to 2 million cubic meters of rock could soon fall above the mountain village of Brienz in Graubünden.
- The evacuation of the village with its 84 inhabitants was completed on May 12th.
Experts assume that a major rock fall is imminent, says Christian Gartmann, spokesman for the Albula municipality, to Radio SRF.
The cantonal roads from Tiefencastel in the direction of Surava (Landwasserstrasse) and Lenzerheide (Julierstrasse) as well as the Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway were closed.
The speeds of the rock masses have increased tenfold since Thursday morning. What exactly is happening on the slope cannot be said at the moment, the authorities say. This because of the darkness. Above Brienz, however, a very big event is in progress – and this can also be heard acoustically.
Since May 12, the danger level red has applied in the Grisons mountain village of Brienz. This means that the entire village was no longer allowed to be entered.
A total of six roadblocks were erected. The village is electronically monitored. In addition, a no-fly zone was set up over Brienz.
