After his film “Nicky Larson and the Perfume of Cupid”, is Philippe Lacheau ready to return for a new adaptation of the cult manga?
A new adaptation of the manga City Hunter is coming to Netflix. Soberly titled Nicky Larson (the French title of the animated series), this film marks the very first Japanese adaptation of the famous comic strip by Tsukasa Hojo. Before that, several live-action versions saw the light of day, notably with Jackie Chan and more recently via a parody by Philippe Lacheau.
In Nicky Larson and the Scent of Cupid, the latter himself takes on the role of the title hero. In this action comedy, conceived as a love letter to Club Dorothée, Nicky and his partner Laura (Élodie Fontan) are entrusted with the mission of finding a perfume designed to make anyone who uses it irresistible…
The film convinced some fans of the manga
Upon its release, the film did not meet with the success of Philippe Lacheau’s other films but nevertheless managed to attract 1.7 million spectators in theaters. The feature film was broadcast internationally in several countries, including Japan.
A popular success if not a triumph in the vein of Babysitting and Alibi.com, Nicky Larson and the Scent of Cupid managed to convince a certain number of skeptical fans.
But if he declared himself open to the idea of a sequel at the time of the film’s release, Philippe Lacheau has not yet been able to make this wish come true. In recent years, however, the latter has continued filming, Super-heroes Despite Him and Alibi.com 2 in particular. Without forgetting his participation as an actor in other films made by the Fifi gang: 3 days max and Dog and Cat.
His next project is the adaptation of a famous comic book
Unfortunately, Nicky Larson 2 will not be the next project to which Philippe Lacheau will devote himself, since he has already announced that his new film will be a new adaptation of the adventures of Marsupilami. “There’s not a room where we’re not asked for a Nicky Larson sequel. I didn’t think it would be in such high demand” he told us in February 2023.
“At some point, we might have to think about it!” he added, while his playing partner and companion in the city Élodie Fontan confides her surprise, but also her pleasure that this film is the one that has fans of the troupe talking the most. “It was my favorite movie” she revealed to us during this same interview.
A Nicky Larson 2 by Philippe Lacheau is therefore not on the agenda. Unless the latter cedes the production to someone else, it is therefore advisable to wait at least a few years until the filming of his adaptation of Marsupilami (expected in theaters on February 4, 2026) is completed.
Until then, it’s a completely different version of Nicky Larson – but no less successful – which is offered to us exclusively on Netflix.
