Already criticized by the skyrocketing prices of Tesla vehicles in recent months, the manufacturer of electric cars headed by Elon Musk is once again being hounded by American users: the company no longer provides a universal charging cable with the purchase of a new model.

The Americans seem to be the first affected, but the disappearance of the charging cable on delivery could happen in the future in other countries.

No excuses, but a lower price

A few days ago, curious little people and Tesla users noticed a discreet but important update on the brand’s official website. It is now stated that, in the United States, the universal mobile charging cable is only purchasable separately for the modest sum of 400 dollars. Information shared hundreds of times on social networks, attracting the attention of Elon Musk in person who hastened to respond to this news.

According to him, the disappearance of the charging cable comes from statistical studies of user usage. There would be too few people who use this cable, preferring the Superchargers of the brand for example. Faced with the disappointment of buyers, Musk immediately announced a halving of the price of cable and invited users to install a wall charging station as far upstream as possible from their order.

This practice is unfortunately not isolated, other car brands having already taken this decision to remove the charging cable delivered free with the vehicle like Kia or BMW. And of course, this will also remind us of the practices of smartphone manufacturers Google, Samsung or Apple, who sell cables, plugs and adapters at maddening prices.
