“Golden Bachelor” couple announces their separation

“Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner married his chosen one shortly after the finale. Just three months later, the couple announced their separation.
Gerry Turner’s (72) lightning love is over again. Last year he was the first bachelor on the US dating show “The Golden Bachelor” – a “Bachelor” spin-off for the older semester – to look for a woman to grow old with. He fell head over heels in love with Theresa Nist (70), and shortly afterwards the couple exchanged vows. Now Turner and Nist surprisingly announce their separation. “Theresa and I had a series of heart-to-heart conversations, and we looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so on – and we kind of came to the conclusion that it was probably time for us to get married to dissolve,” Turner explained in the Interview on “Good Morning America.”
The reason for the separation is the different centers of life of the spouses. Turner’s children live in Indiana, Nist’s daughter in New Jersey. “We look at these situations and I think we just feel that it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart,” Turner reported. The couple looked at houses together in South Carolina and New Jersey, but were never able to bring themselves to take this step.
Love for each other remains
The couple assured that the separation was not due to a lack of love for each other. They held each other’s hands throughout the interview. “I still love that person. There’s no doubt about it, I’m still in love with her. I’m rooting for her every day,” Turner said. “I still love him,” Nist added.
Despite their separation, the two want to remain role models for older singles. “We can’t tell you how many people have told us it has given them so much hope. We don’t want that to change for anyone,” Nist said. She and Turner remain hopeful that they can fall in love again.
Live wedding on TV
Turner knelt in front of Theresa Nist in the finale of “The Golden Bachelor,” which aired on November 30, 2023. The couple’s wedding was broadcast on the live show “The Golden Wedding” on US television on January 4th. “I know that I have found a partner with whom I can share all the experiences that life has in store for us,” Turner’s wedding vows said at the time.
Both Turner and Nist were married to their childhood sweethearts before appearing on “The Golden Bachelor.” Both died after over 40 years of marriage.
