After three years – David Dimitri leaves Winterfest

A bang at the winter festival: After the former commercial director, the artistic director David Dimitri is now also turning his back on the circus festival.

“It’s no secret that I’m leaving,” David Dimitri tells the “Krone”. The Swiss artist has been the artistic director of the contemporary circus festival in Salzburg since 2019. After the current season, however, it’s over for him. Artistic differences led to the breakup And not without reason: “There were completely different ideas within the management team that could no longer be reconciled with mine.” So companies without Dimitri’s knowledge would be committed and program items implemented without consulting him as artistic director. “I know that tastes differ. But I’m disappointed how the whole thing ended up going,” says the Swiss. So the program presentation in October should have taken place on a day when Dimitri could not be present. At least that’s what insider circles say. An approach that has left its mark on the established and internationally successful artist. “I was actually always proud of what we did together at Winterfest. Even during the pandemic.” In the future, David Dimitri wants to focus more on international projects in Switzerland and the USA. It is still unclear whether or who will succeed the 59-year-old in the position of artistic director at the winter festival. Julia Eder only left the management of the winter festival in June last year. Since then, Robert Seguin has been responsible for the commercial management.Festival completely sold out to the endDespite all the artistic differences, the festival management should draw a positive balance this year. The demand at the winter festival was great. Some performances were already completely sold out in advance. The odds are also poor for last-minute visitors who want to see the final performance on Sunday: All tickets are sold out.
