After two years without real major updates, Google Authenticator is getting timid but interesting new features… at least, on Android.
Further strengthen the confidentiality of the access codes it contains. This is the goal of Google Authenticator 5.20. The new version of the double authentication application signed Google brings two new features: the first since May 2020 and the last major update deployed on the app.
An update still rolling out
Google Authenticator 5.20 now hides codes by default. To reveal them, just click on them, then click on them again to hide them again and avoid prying eyes. This new version of Google’s 2FA application also makes it possible to automatically transfer the code to the login waiting to be completed. The only contraindication: the codes thus transferred appear in clear text in the Android 13 clipboard. Confidentiality can then take a hit.
In gradual deployment since May 23, first on Android, Google Authenticator 5.20 will probably arrive later on iOS. Moreover, at this stage, all Android users have not yet been served.
