The “Rocky” spin-off “Creed” has already survived three highly successful rounds in the cinema. The fourth is scheduled to start next year.

This news is despite the commercial success of the third part of the “Creed” series was not a given: Hollywood producer Irwin Winkler (92) confirmed during an event in Los Angeles last Saturday (November 18th) that the “Rocky” spin-off would go into a fourth round. He also revealed 92-year-old that Michael B. Jordan (36) will once again play both the leading role and the place in the director’s chair.

With a mischievous smile on his lips, Winkler says in a short clip, which the US industry website “Deadline” published: “I’m not supposed to tell you, but he’ll do it again.” Jordan made his directorial debut with “Creed III”, which was released in cinemas in 2023, and celebrated great success at the box office: with around 275 million US dollars worldwide, it grossed significantly more than its two predecessors. And that despite the fact that “Creed III” is the first film in the entire “Rocky” universe in which a certain Sylvester Stallone (77) aka Rocky Balboa no longer appeared in front of the camera.

“Deadline” continues to reportAccording to Winkler, “Creed IV” will go into pre-production in about a year. This had been planned at an earlier point in time, but the extensive Hollywood strikes of the past few months had caused a delay. Winkler is already completely convinced of the quality of the fourth “Creed” part: “We have a really good story, a really good plot,” the producer is quoted as saying.

The “Creed” series is about Adonis Creed (Jordan), the son of Rocky Balboa’s opponent in the ring and later friend Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers, 75). While Stallone played a key role as a mentor figure in the first two “Creed” installments, he was missing in the third installment.

Instead, he previously caused a stir with public criticism of the producer. The star shared a caricature on Instagram in 2022 in which Winkler can be seen with the body of a snake and a sword as a tongue. “A most flattering portrait of the great ‘Rocky’/’Creed’ producer Irwin Winkler,” Stallone captioned his post before lashing out at Winkler.

“By the way, after Winkler has controlled ‘Rocky’ for 47 years and now ‘Creed,’ I would really like to have at least a little of what’s left of my rights back before you just leave it to your children.” Stallone never tires of criticizing how – in his view – the rights to the famous franchise were stolen from him.
