Again no win against Fortuna
Fear opponent annoys Herbstmeister St. Pauli
Fortuna wavers for a long time, but does not topple: St. Pauli does not lose to Düsseldorf for the fifth time in a row, but the second division autumn champions cannot really look forward to the draw. The Hamburgers do not bring the tight leadership over the time.
Autumn champions FC St. Pauli ended their outstanding first half of the second division with a somewhat annoying away point. Despite clear superiority at Fortuna Düsseldorf, Hamburg only managed to score 1: 1 (0: 0), but are seven points ahead of third-placed Schalke 04 in the second half of the season. The signs point to advancement.
Marcel Hartel (47th) was criminally left alone by the Düsseldorf defense at the opening goal. Fortuna, who started with ambitions for promotion, last won four times in a row against St. Pauli, wavered in front of 15,000 spectators, but came back with the ninth goal of the season by Rouwen Hennings (68th). With the guests, the head coach was back on the sidelines: Timo Schultz had been in isolation for two weeks due to corona disease, he is fine.
In a game that was varied right from the start, the guests bet on the winning eleven from the Schalke game and initially had better chances against the committed Düsseldorf team. After a free kick by Leart Paqarada Fortuna keeper Raphael Wolf prevented an early deficit after a header from Jackson Irvine.
Daniel-Kofi Kyereh also failed with a shot from the edge of the penalty area at the Düsseldorf goalkeeper (36th). Fortuna presented itself again as in Darmstadt with a three-way defense chain, in which Dragos Nedelcu initially took over command for the injured Adam Bodzek. The team secured a lot of the game, but was far too harmless in front of goal and missed two good opportunities through Emmanuel Iyoha (3rd) and Khaled Narey (44th). It was better for Hamburg, who took the lead after the break with Hartel’s first goal of the season, but center forward Hennings saved Fortuna the draw with his goal instinct.
